Curriculum Peek

Spelling/ Vocabulary: This week's pattern is homonyms. Our new vocab is over different weather words. Both spelling and vocab tests will be sent home tomorrow.

Math: We are continuing with Topic 14: Area. Please take a couple minutes per night to practice these skills with your child. Perimeter and area are lifelong skills that students need to know how to do!

Science and Reading: Due to circumstances beyond our control, all state assessments have been cancelled for the week. I will update you as soon as I get an update. We will beginning our unit over weather this week. We will start with learning the difference between climate and weather.

Khan Academy

Last week, we began working on a math website called Khan Academy. Students complete different missions that test them on the math skills we have practiced this year. It is really fun to watch because they each get to work on the skills that they need extra help with! Your child is welcome to work on Khan Academy at home. If they can't remember their username and password, please email me.

4th Quarter Reward System

For the remainder of the year, I am implementing a new reward system called Bendure Moolah. The kids can earn fake money for various things throughout the day such as returning homework on time, completing the enrichment side of their homework, getting their agenda filled out on time in the morning or setting a good example for others. At the end of the quarter, we will be having an auction. Students will be able to use their money to bid on the items that they want. This is where I need your help! :) If you have any trinkets, toys, games, etc. laying around the house that you are tired of looking at and would like to donate, I would love it! In the past when I have done this, food and drink have always been a big hit as well but those types of donations can wait until closer to the auction. It will be each student's responsibility to keep track of their money. If they lose it, they just start over the next day. I will not be replacing any "lost" money. I think that this is going to be a fun and motivating way to finish the year strong with great behavior!

My future teaching career!

I am a student currently at MidAmerica Nazarene University pursuing a degree in Elementary Education.  My name is Tina Bendure and this is a blog that I have started for a class I am currently taking online. We are learning how to integrate more technology use into the classrooms.

When I graduate with my Elementary Education degree I would like to teach Kindergarten to second grade but am open to anything. I would like to teach reading it is a subject I struggled with when I was in grade school. I want to show students that reading is fun and exciting.
- Jacqueline Kennedy “There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all.”

The main reason I want to be a teacher is to make a difference in a children's lives. I feel teaching, next to parenting, is the most important job anyone will ever have.  A great benefit of being a teacher is the time off in the summer, on weekends, and holidays so I can spend time with my children and husband.
